The wisdom teeth are the third set of molars to come in. They come in between the ages of 17 and 21. When they grow in, they can grow in perfectly fine and cause no troubles. However, more often than not, they cause many problems and need to be removed.
The potential problems are:
Crowding of teeth.
Damage to adjacent teeth.
Damage to nerves.
Damage to jawbone.
Make second molars vulnerable to decay.
Can stay trapped in gum (causing pain).
Can only partially breakthrough (causing pain and leaving you vulnerable to bacteria).
And misalignment of jaw.
How will they pull them out?
Your oral surgeon will numb the area around the teeth to be pulled. He will then remove any bone or tissue blocking the teeth. He will extract them with his fancy instruments and whatnot. And if necessary, he will then stitch you up to help you heal faster.
In any case, I think it is very worth the temporary pain to save you smile, and to save yourself any long term pain.
